HABIT OF MIND: Listening with Understanding & EmpathyFrom the PrincipalDear McKenzie Families, In addition to the sheer wonder and joy that the holiday season brings, there is much happening here at school. For the past few weeks, our fourth graders have been engaged in the study of U.S. Geography as they participate in National Geographic’s Geography Bee. Their have shared their knowledge and enthusiasm for the topic school-wide by offering questions to all of our students via morning announcements. On Wednesday, our fourth grade finalists will be challenged to a final round of questions to determine who will move on to regional/state competition. Our finalists will also have the honor of leading the opening Pledge of Allegiance at Monday evening’s meeting of the Board of Education. We congratulate all of our students for the effort they have put into this study! Our first graders have also been hard at work, preparing for their winter music program, on Wednesday at 2:30. Mrs. Bergmann and her students have a wonderful performance to share with the school and their families. I look forward to seeing our First Grade families there! The final week of school brings the first session of McClubs to an end. I hope your child has enjoyed his/her classes and that you will take a few moments to offer your feedback ( http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/M6XYJ3Y). Your input is very important to us as we plan and prepare the next session of McClubs coming to you in January. It won’t be long before our fourth graders will be selecting their choice of a foreign language for 5th grade. To that end, the Highcrest World Language Department will be presenting an overview of the language choices to begin the process of choosing a language. Identical presentations will be given on Thursday, January 12 and Thursday, January 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the HMS auditorium. This program is intended for parents only as students will be receiving world language information at their home school. A big thank you to our Movie Night committee for hosting this evening’s event. I hope those who attended had a great time! Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Open Gym Night, coming up on Wednesday. As always, please refer to the District 39 Google calendar and/or our McKenzie School/PTA websites for all calendar events. It’s not too late to participate in Student Council’s canned food drive, with all donations going to our local food pantry. Thus far we have collected 125 items—still a good distance from their goal of 550!! Food items can STILL be dropped off Mon.-Wed. and can be placed in the containers found in our school lobby. A donation of just one can/box per McKenzie family will ensure that we reach our goal! As this week comes to a close, McKenzie bids a fond farewell to Mrs. King, who has served as one of our school secretaries for the past six years. While Kaquana has resigned her position at McKenzie to pursue a new career path, we wish her all the best in her new ventures! Wishing you a warm and wonderful weekend~ Dr. Welter From the P.T.A.Game On! The first Open Gym Night of the year is Wednesday, December 14th from 6-8 p.m. Bring your family for an evening of indoor play using the gyms and equipment. Lockers are not accessible during Open Gym night. Please help protect our gym floors by bringing a change of shoes if the weather outside is wet. Go here for more information and a full schedule of Open Gym dates.
McClubs Survey: We Want to Hear From You! Respond by going to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/M6XYJ3Y. Please complete the survey by Friday, December 16th.
Chess Club Registration is Open – Whether your child is new to the game of chess or has experience, all skill levels are accommodated.
