Fine Arts is a parent-led iGNITE program that brings curriculum-related art projects to all the classrooms. For the 2016-2017 school year, McKenzie Art Teacher, Sarah Brazee, has designed one project for each grade level, based on the feedback of the classroom teachers. The art projects are designed to give students an art experience that is relevant to what they are learning about in science or social studies. The projects are different from the previous fine arts program in that they do not focus on a famous artist, but on a topic in the classroom curriculum. Parents volunteer to facilitate the projects. Their role is to prepare the provided materials in advance, familiarize themselves with the lesson plan, and work with children in the classroom for about an hour. There will be a parent volunteer meeting in October and projects will commence thereafter.
Fine Arts is a parent-led program and brings curriculum-related art courses into all the classrooms with 2 projects each year. The committee has developed presentations about different artists, along with an art project. Each presentation lasts about an hour. Presentations can be scheduled well ahead of time and there is little advance preparation necessary.
