McKenzie Staff always “goes for the gold” in their work with our children! Now it’s time to celebrate them!
This year’s theme for Staff Appreciation Week is the Olympics. Unfortunately, we can’t send the staff to London, but the Staff Appreciation Week Committee has planned many Olympic-sized treats to honor the McKenzie Staff right here at home! And there are plenty of ways you can help!
RAFFLE!
Let’s make every teacher a winner this year! We are currently looking for donations of $5.00 gift cards. We hope to give one to each staff member during the week. Gift cards can be from any place you choose…Starbucks, a gas card, Panera, Subway, etc. PLEASE ONLY BUY $5.00 GIFT CARDS! (More than one is welcome if you feel so inclined☺) Gift card donations should be turned in to Karen Dekker, 1531 Spencer Ave., by Thursday, April 26th—or contact her to pick yours up: ckdekker [at] comcast [dot] net.
We have reached our goal of 1 gift card for every teacher! Thanks to all who contributed.
STAFF LOUNGE EXTREME MAKEOVER!
Over the April 27th-29th weekend, the McKenzie Staff Lounge will be transformed with new paint, pillows, artwork, storage units, and more! McKenzie Mom and interior designer, Jen Truszkowski, is guiding the transformation. Find out more here.
DAILY TREATS!
Room Parents will contact each class’ parents to recruit 2-3 volunteers to donate specific food/drink items for the Staff Lounge. Each grade level will be responsible for a day of treats. Please consider lending a hand in this way.
STAFF LUNCHEON!
Sign-up here to bring a dish or just drop by to thank the Staff! The luncheon will be held at the Rothsteins’ home, 826 Park Avenue on Friday, May 4th, from 11:30-2 p.m.
STUDENT PARTICIPATION!
Students have been given the opportunity to create medals for their teachers during lunch recess. They also have written Olympic-themed quotes about their teachers, which will be posted around the school during Staff Appreciation Week. During the Week, they will have the chance to write Sidewalk Chalk Thank Yous to the McKenzie Staff. Last but not least, Student Council representatives have created darling Post-It Note holders to give to the staff. Of course, anything else you’d like to have your child do to honor his/her teacher would be great.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING TO MAKE THIS YEAR’S STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK A HUGE SUCCESS! YOU JUST EARNED YOURSELF A GOLD MEDAL☺

The Variety Show
The Variety Show has a Producer & Director team, and volunteers (parents, teachers, and staff) to write, produce, and perform an original show each year. Rehearsals begin in January and the shows are in March. No drama experience, or talent is required. Volunteers get to know lots of other folks (and are considered by their kids to be stars).
There are many ways to be involved even if you don’t want to be on stage:
Cast = The only requirement is that you be willing to smile on stage. Cast members have a range of singing, dancing and acting skills, and all levels of talent (or un-talent) are welcome.
Crew = We need help with lighting, sound and moving props/sets on stage.
Costumes and Sets = This creative group creates our costumes or builds/paints sets. Many hands make light work ☺
Behind the Scenes = These heroes design the program, sell the tickets and concessions, or serve as ushers.
For more information, contact producer Jon Marshall at jhmwriter [at] gmail [dot] com
Mark your calendars for March: Six Variety Show performances running Tuesday, March 13th through Saturday March 17th 2012

Fall Frenzy: Help us plan!
We are looking for people to help chair sub-committees.

Fall Frenzy
This year, this evening family event is held October 21.
Volunteers organize and run carnival games, crafts, freeze dancing, and pizza sales. It’s a great time for volunteers to be a big help in a small amount of time. Older responsible siblings are also welcome to assist.
If you’d like to volunteer to chair a sub-committee, contact Deanna at deannagoldman [at] mac [dot] com. We’ll have more specific signups here on the PTA web site as we get closer to the event.
Movie Nights
McKenzie Movie Night happens twice a year - once in December and once in the spring.
