PTA Meeting with Dave Pelzet and Tracy Meziere
Please join us in the cafeteria on Tuesday, April 15th at 9:15. Our guest speakers will be Dave Pelzet, the principal of Highcrest and WJHS, and Tracy Meziere, Assistant Principal for 5th grade. Kids are welcome!
In addition, the work of the Nominating Committee is complete and the slate will be presented at the General Board meeting on Tuesday, April 15. Thanks to Jacquie Rayment and the entire nominating committee for their hard work.
Volunteers Needed for the Gardens, Opening April 28
McKenzie Gardens open for the spring on Monday, April 28. Parent volunteers are needed on Mondays and Fridays throughout the spring to help supervise the students as they dig, explore, create and plant. Sign up at http://www.mckenziepta.com
PTA Earth Week Celebration
The PTA Green Committee’s Earth Week Celebration (April 28 – May 2) will include the following:
On Monday, April 28, students will write thank you messages to the earth in the Gardens; on Tuesday, April 29 during lunch/recess, such messages will then be displayed on a tree quilt in the front lobby of the school.
On Wednesday, April 30, Waste Free ideas will be promoted and advocated in the cafeteria; on Thursday May 1, there will be a Waste Free Lunch day in the cafeteria (parents are asked to pack student lunches in reusable containers instead of disposables). Any fruit and vegetable leftovers will be composted.
On Friday, May 2, students will construct a recycled art project in the Gardens using melted plastic sun-catchers made in the fall during Environmental Week.
During Earth Week, morning announcements about water conservation will be made by the third grade Brownie troop, themed books will be displayed in the library, and a no-idling campaign for the pickup and drop-off lines will be promoted. Support Earth Week at McKenzie by having your students participate in many or all of the activities!
Bike Safety for Second Graders
Second Grade Bike Safety Day, held on May 1, is an annual McKenzie event, funded by the Wilmette Bicycle Task Force and taught by the Active Transportation Alliance. Remember your child’s bike, helmet, and bike lock!
A Running Track for McKenzie?
Do you know what happens on Wednesdays in gym class? Yes, it’s Running Day! Wouldn’t it be amazing when the weather is nice and the kids are outside that they have a real track to run on? If you answer yes, come help me explore this idea further. Contact Rebecca at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Safety Monitors Needed Before and After School
Please help us ensure the safe arrival and departure of McKenzie students by volunteering to help drivers properly navigate through the pickup and drop off zones.
Volunteers will be informed of all traffic guidelines, and will help drivers who have questions, or inform drivers of the school guidelines and Illinois law.
We will continue to get assistance from the Wilmette Police, but would appreciate a few more hands. Sign up to volunteer at http://www.mckenziepta.com
Orders for this school year will close on Friday, May 9! Extend your child’s birthday celebration – or have it come early this year.
Please visit the Birthday Books page: http://mckenziepta.com/birthday-books/. Thank you for supporting the McKenzie Library Media Center! For questions, contact Rebecca Lieber at email@example.com.
Grocery Dollars are gifts cards that are purchased and used like cash at the grocery store (Jewel/Osco, Treasure Island, and Fresh Market). The Grocery Dollars team purchases these gift cards at a 5% discount and then this discount is passed onto the McKenzie PTA.
Monthly subscriptions are available (with home delivery) or you may purchase the Grocery Dollar gift cards at PTA meetings. A fantastic fundraiser!
