Help the Families at Carman-Buckner School in Waukegan.
Bring your family together to share the joy, share the feast and share the warmth with the Carman-Buckner community in these ways:
Return Star Gifts on Monday, December 9th. Please bring the wrapped gifts (with the star securely attached) to the school lobby before and after school. Star Gifts should be handed directly to a Sharing Committee volunteer so that they can be checked in. (Please note the revised date.)
Holiday Shop Gifts Accepted from December 2nd – 13th. Purchase a $20 toy for the Holiday Shop that allows Carman-Buckner parents to select gifts for their children. Please bring the unwrapped gifts to the collection bin in the school lobby.
Jewel Gift Cards for Purchase until December 9th. More than $1,900 worth of gift cards has already been purchased! Donations in any amount can still be made by cash or check. Please drop off your donation to the Sharing Committee mailbox in the school office.
Clothing Collection Continues. New or gently -used closed-toe shoes, school uniforms (navy bottoms and white tops) and outerwear (jackets, sweatshirts and hoodies) in sizes 5-14 are needed most, especially for girls. There is a shortage of girls’ uniforms, specifically white tops and blue bottoms in sizes 5-14. A Sharing Committee collection bin is located in the school lobby.

PTA Nominating Committee Nominations Deadline
Do you know someone who is enthusiastic about the PTA mission and wants to help build a strong leadership team for the future? In January, the McKenzie PTA will elect members of the 2014-2015 McKenzie PTA Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee will in turn identify qualified nominees for open positions on the 2014-2015 PTA Executive Board. Officers will be elected by the PTA in April.
The members of the committee have a tremendous influence on the future of the PTA and should be selected carefully. It helps if committee members have a broad acquaintance with the McKenzie PTA membership (at least at one grade level) and an understanding of the PTA’s mission and functions. The committee should include both experienced and newer members and represent parents with children at different grade levels. More specific information as to the qualities and qualifications of Nominating Committee members are available on the McKenzie PTA website.
You can nominate yourself or another PTA member for the Nominating Committee. To submit a nomination, send an email to Secretary@McKenziePTA.com with your name and the nominee’s name, clearly identifying yourself as the nominator and the person you want to nominate as the nominee. The nominee will be asked to confirm their willingness to serve via email.
The deadline for nominations is Monday, December 9, 2013. An email will be sent confirming that your nomination has been received. If you do not receive a confirmation email by Tuesday, December 10, 2013, please contact Peggy Brink at Secretary@McKenziePTA.com. A complete list of nominees for the Nominating Committee will be posted by Friday, December 13, 2013, on the McKenzie PTA website: McKenziePTA.com>PTA Resources>Nominating Committee and Rules. Additional information about the nominating process is included there as well. Please take an active role in your PTA by applying for the Nominating Committee.
Open Gym Night
Need a break from the cold and need the kids to run off some winter energy? Parents, come enjoy Open Gym Night with your kids in the McKenzie gym on Wednesday, December 18 at 6 pm.
Power Up To Play
The brand new committee Power up to Play is hosting it first event – Nutrition and Exercise Night – on January 23, 2014. Please volunteer to make this night a huge success! We will be offering Yoga and Zumba classes, loads of nutrition information, healthy tasters, and new ways to get activity during the winter. To volunteer, please see the following Sign Up Genius: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084EABAC2DA31-nutrition.
Don’t forget to order your Birthday Book now – your child will get to choose a new book with the help of the librarian during his/her birthday or half-birthday month! Please visit the Birthday Books page: http://mckenziepta.com/birthday-books/. Thank you for supporting the McKenzie Library Media Center! For questions, contact Rebecca Lieber at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Grocery Dollars are gifts cards that are purchased and used like cash at the grocery store (Jewel/Osco, Treasure Island, and Fresh Market). The Grocery Dollars team purchases these gift cards at a 5% discount and then this discount is passed onto the McKenzie PTA.
Monthly subscriptions are available (with home delivery) or you may purchase the Grocery Dollar gift cards at PTA meetings. A fantastic fundraiser!

The McKenzie Benefit Needs You!
The McKenzie Benefit, “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” will be held on February 1, 2014 at Michigan Shores Club in Wilmette. The Benefit Committee needs your help today! Here are things you can do:
1. Host a McKenzie Mingles party. Find some friends or couples at McKenzie to host with you. Some ideas include: Wine Tasting party, paddle tennis party, Mom’s yoga or Zumba party, Dad’s poker or BBQ night. These parties have the potential to raise significant funds at the auction!
2. Donate an auction item. Do you have tickets to a sporting/theatre/concert event? Could you donate airline miles or a night at a hotel (downtown, Kohler, Grand Geneva) or a gift certificate to a favorite restaurant? Do you own a vacation home? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help in any area.
