The Birds of Prey presentation helps to complement our Ecosystems Unit for science. Students learn how birds of prey found in Illinois and our local community contribute to our local ecosystem.
They learn about the different adaptations different birds have in order to help them survive. This can be their coloring, feathers, and beaks. The students get to see artifacts from the River Trail to help them understand these concepts. The highlight of this visit is always getting to see the great horned owl. Students get to see this owl’s adaptations firsthand. Ranger Ryan always does a great job answering the students’ questions and making sure all of them get a turn to interact with the materials.
