Sharing Committee
Every year, the McKenzie Sharing Committee hosts a three-part holiday collection program for the children at Carman-Buckner. The first part of the program is known as Share the Warmth during which we collect coats, hats, and gloves via classroom donations. Most of the first requests from the children of Carman-Buckner are not for toys but for warm coats for the winter. The next part of the program is called Share the Joy. Most families at Carman-Buckner will struggle to purchase gifts for their own children so the Sharing Committee asks that McKenzie parents donate gifts for the students that we then use to host a full holiday “shop” at Carman-Buckner. Carman-Buckner parents can use vouchers given to them by the school social worker to get new gifts for their own children and have them wrapped by our volunteers. The third part of the collection program is Share the Feast, where we ask McKenzie parents to donation money towards grocery store gift cards to be distributed amongst struggling Carman-Buckner families. These gift cards are given out by the school social worker based on need.
Additional drives for needed items by the school are conducted throughout the school year. Examples of such drives include books and additional coats, mitten, hat and grocery dollars. Typically, at the end of the school year, we have coordinated snacks for the teachers. The possibilities are endless!
We ask that committees that are interested in coordinating a drive for Carman-Buckner reach out to a member of the Sharing Committee so we are able to coordinate these efforts with the Carman-Buckner school social worker.
