McKenzie Read-a-Thon

Get your readers ready!  This exciting school-wide program promotes reading and raises funds for the McKenzie PTA.  There are individual winners for each class, and winning classes for each grade too!  Here’s how it works:

Now - April 13: Get donations! Students are encouraged to ask friends and family to sponsor their reading. These donors can either provide a flat rate, or pledge money for minutes read (ex. Donate $10 or $0.10 cents for every minute read). Log these donations on the attached pledge form. It’s ok to collect additional donors during the Read-A-Thon too.

April 14 – April 28: Read! Read! Read! Students track and log their minutes spent reading daily. Both reading at school and at home counts! Track minutes on the attached time tracker sheet.

April 29- May 3: Turn everything in! During this week, please submit a one-time payment of the total amount collected. You can pay by check payable to McKenzie PTA or the preferred method of paying by credit card by clicking the button below. Submit your reader’s total reading minutes this week too. You can either turn in the paper reading log to your teacher or complete the google survey here.

Week of May 6: Winners announced - Prizes will be awarded to the top reader in each class (i.e. reads the most minutes). The top class in each grade will also be honored. This year’s prize sponsors are Lefty’s Pizza and The Book Stall.

This year, we have several additional events and activities during Read-A-Thon!

April 10th - Bring in a book for a Book Swap in the Learning Commons

April 19th - Dress like your favorite book character day

Reading Bingo Challenge - Complete 5 activities in a row on the attached Bingo card. Turn it in the week of April 29 for a chance to win a prize!
