Updates about Share the Warmth + Share the Feast success:

THANK YOU MCKENZIE!

As a result of your generosity, we were able to order 85 $25 heart gift cards to go to CB families this week which is fantastic! We raised just over $2,000!! We were also able to deliver over 14 boxes of coats and several bags of warm weather gear to our students at Carman-Buckner last Friday.

Our delivery included several boxes of brand new coats and many gently used and cozy coats, snow pants, boots and more.

Staff at Carman-Buckner were thrilled and grateful for the delivery as the weather has grown increasingly cold.

Thank you McK for working together to make such a difference in our sister school community!

Sharing Committee: Supporting our Sister School Carman Buckner Elementary in Waukegan IL

Years ago, two teachers connected the school communities of McKenzie and Carman-Buckner Elementary in Waukegan IL. Our schools are similar in size, student population, and both schools have a wonderful staff filled with vibrant, creative teachers and administrators.

We have found 3 ways to “Share the Love” and support our sister school:

A bit more about Carman-Buckner:

Carman-Buckner is a leader in elementary education in many ways. In 2023, Carman-Buckner was recognized by Midwest PBIS Network for PBIS Implementation for the School Year 2022-2023 with a focus on action planning. Visitors to school might be delighted to find a PBIS graphic novel vending machine in the main hallway, and marvel at the student zen lounge Chill Ville complete with sound and light machines, even sensory pea pods!

Principal Silva wrote to the school community last May to announce that Carman-Buckner Elementary School had achieved a "Well-Organized" overall rating for the 2023 school year as part of the The Illinois 5Essentials Survey, administered by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago on behalf of the Illinois School Board of Education.

In addition, Principal Silva and CB staff have designed inspirational school programs - like attendance and spirit challenges by house (Hogwarts style) and encouraging the creation of a vibrant school environment by showcasing student, staff and parent volunteer-led art projects. Students are welcomed to school by colorful fence wrapping murals. In the building children are invited to wander sensory paths, or enjoy a magical school library anchored by a tree bookshelf beneath a ceiling of painted leaves.

Parent volunteer and mentorship programs are supported by both Carman-Buckner and the Waukegan School district - D60 and make up an integral part of the school community.

CB students are invited to take the Upstander Pledge, committing to support one another and represent their pride in what is clearly a very special place.
