Junior Great Books: Help your child build a positive relationship with books! Junior Great Books is a great way to spark your child’s interest in literature and thoughtful discussion. Each week, a story is chosen for the group. Students read the story at home, either independently or with an adult, then come to their weekly meeting to discuss and do a craft or project with other kids from their grade. Junior Great Books makes it possible for all children, regardless of their reading level, to contribute with confidence and learn from one another. Groups will meet once a week for 8 weeks (January-March) during lunch/recess and your child will need to bring a nut-free lunch from home that day. We all look forward to the joy we see in our childrens’ beaming faces when they open up gifts during the holiday season. Please help us share that joy with families of Carman-Buckner Elementary students. Our goal this year is to share 150 new toys. All new toys donated by the McKenzie community will stock our Holiday Shop where eligible Carman-Buckner families are invited to “shop” for their children. The Holiday Shop will take place on December 7. To ensure that the proper mix of gender/age appropriate gifts are donated, we have created a SignUpGenius that we invite you to use: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C49AFAB2CA2F58-share2
Unwrapped toys can be delivered to the school through December 4. Your children can bring the toys to school and drop them off in the bin that will be located near the bulletin boards at the front entrance of the school. Donations of wrapping paper and scotch tape will also be accepted and are appreciated.
We all understand the joy of sharing a special meal with our loved ones over the Holidays. As such, please join the Sharing Committee in our tradition of purchasing Jewel gift cards for the families of Carman-Buckner Elementary students. You can contribute to Share the Feast by filling out the form below.
Our goal is to provide $50 Jewel gift cards to 50 needy families. Please consider donating to help us achieve this goal.
