Cub Scouts: Introduction to Scouting Event
Introducing Cub Scouts Pack 1!
Pack 1 invites you to our free Introduction to Scouting event! If you’re curious about Scouting, come join us at Vattman Park on Sunday, September 8, to meet Pack leadership, hear about the activities we have planned for the 2024–25 scouting year, see a practical demonstration of tent setup, play games—and pizza will be served!
When: Sunday, September 8, 3:00–5:30 pm
Where: Vattman Park, just north of the playground
What is Pack 1?
Pack 1 is based here in Wilmette and is made up of all the Cub Scouts at McKenzie Elementary School and St. Joseph’s/St. Francis Xavier School; we also accept Scouts from other schools. We fall under the Northeast Illinois Council (NEIC), Potawatomi District. The Pack is divided into Dens by grade:
Kindergarten: Lion Den
First Grade: Tiger Den
Second Grade: Wolf Den
Third Grade: Bear Den
Fourth Grade: Webelos
Fifth Grade: Arrow of Light
All children are welcome to join.
What do the Pack 1 Scouts do?
Our Scouts do activities as a group that teach them useful life skills and citizenship while having a blast and building friendships. We have a packed schedule this year, including:
Fall overnight campout—coming up Sept. 28-29!
Fall service project
Raingutter Regatta, where the Scouts build self-propelled boats
The Pinewood Derby, our most popular event of the year!
Museum Overnight
Scout Olympics
March in the Memorial Day Parade
Spring campout
In addition, Scouts participate in monthly den meetings where they engage in fun activities and learn new skills to earn merit badges that build towards achieving new ranks in Scouting.
When do the meetings usually take place?
We aim to have at least one Pack and one Den meeting a month, usually on Saturdays or Sundays, and typically in the afternoons.
